This is the time of year where most of us are either re-establishing some health related goals, or maybe are startling fresh for the first time!
Here are some things to keep in mind:
LESS IS MORE
Start with what you are confident you can accomplish. Maybe that's 1 healthy meal per week, or maybe it's just going for walks rather than joining a new gym. Measure your success on a weekly basis and add in when you show consistency.
2. MANAGE WORKOUT INTENSITY
I know you want to go all out. Maybe you used to workout, or were an athlete in the past so you know what you are capable of. However, if it's been a while, your body is still starting from scratch. Working out at a higher intensity than you can handle right now will only make you excessively sore and will discourage you.
3. GET YOUR PROTEIN IN
Not only will this help satiate you and help your healthy eating habits, but protein will help with your exercise recovery. If you recover appropriately, you'll be ready for your next workout!
4. SCHEDULE YOUR WORKOUTS IN
This is something you owe yourself. So plan for it, schedule it in, and don't let anything interfere. If you plan; you will succeed.
5. ASK FOR HELP
Finally, if you don't know where to start or are intimidated, ask for help!
Just like any other profession that you rely on to assist you, personal trainers are here to make this transition easier. We are trained to program for your specific goals and your specific movement imbalances.
